The third main section of my senior year in STEM was creating a heart valve. We started this project by learning about elasticity, stress, and strain. We related these 3 factors to each other to find the Young's Modulus for different types of materials and situations. We used our new knowledge to calculate the Young's Modulus of potential materials so that we could test the amount of stress and strain on our models. After finding the optimal material we began to design our heart valve using the dimensions of an actual heart valve to make a proportional model.
